Blanding Library-Regenerative Gardening Initiative

Tuesday, April 8, 2025 - 6:00pm

Regenerative gardening initiative kicks off at the Blanding library April 8 at 6:00 p.m.

Sponsored by The Center for American Legacy Studies in conjunction with San Juan County Libraries

Our goal is to help start 50 new gardens in San Juan County from May 15 to June 15, 2025.

If you have never gardened before and want to start a vegetable garden, we will assist you in getting started. We are planning on last frost day as May 15 for Blanding and June 10 for Monticello.

To build a 10 foot x 10 foot garden you will need the following:

  • Cardboard - enough card boxes that when broken down will cover 100 square feet.
  • Top Soil or Compost - 2 cubic yards/55 cubic feet (6 in ch coverage of the cardboard).
  • Wood Chips - 17 cubic feet of any kind of wood chips.
  • Seedlings - We will show you how to create enough seedlings to plant-out your new garden.
  • Tools - Shovels, Rakes, Hoes, Hammer, Hand Saw
  • Access to Water - Most backyards have ready access to water. All you need is a hose to reach your new garden.
  • Fenced in location - A fenced-in backyard or other location is required to keep deer out for best success.
