Surveyor
The San Juan County Surveyor is an elected official who’s office and duties are mandated by the State Legislature and governed by State Law. (Utah Code 17-23) As a requirement, the County Surveyor must be a Professional Land Surveyor licensed by the State of Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. The main functions of the County Surveyor are to advise the County Executive and County Legislative Body regarding all surveying work, perform or arrange for the performance of all surveying work for the County and to maintain a repository at County Government offices at the County Seat a fair and accurate record of all surveys made, all surveys received and all section corner files and records made or received. In addition, the County Surveyor is responsible for the preservation of existing monumentation (Section Corners) of the Public Land Survey System.
Private Surveys
The San Juan County Survey Office does not perform surveys for the general public, but we will gladly provide you with a list of the Licensed Professional Land Surveyors who have previously performed surveys in and around San Juan County. (Professional Land Surveyors who would like to be added to this list may contact the San Juan County Survey Office.)
Access to Records and Services
Any person requiring any service or access to a record, map, plat, or other filed public document in the county survey office may contact the San Juan County Surveyor or staff during regular working hours to make arrangements.
Staff can assist the general public with a variety of land surveying-related issues, many of which are listed on the Services Offered page.
