San Juan Public Health works to strengthen bridges to health and wellness for all of San Juan County.
As part of a dynamic, service-oriented team, the Health Educator develops and implements prevention-oriented public health education programs. These programs include tobacco prevention education and cessation, intentional and unintentional injury prevention, physical activity, nutrition and obesity, chronic disease prevention, environmental health education, and other programs which may benefit public health in San Juan County.
Essential Functions
- Assists with design and implementation of school curricula, clinic education, community classes, and public education programs.
- Assists with design and implementation of wellness programs for county businesses willing to participate; serves as behavioral coach when applicable.
- Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive local health education plans based on identified needs in the community.
- Coordinates local, state, and national campaign promotions for San Juan County residents by implementing awareness campaigns, media relations, and other social marketing plans.
- Assists with design and implementation of health programs in accordance with comprehensive local health plans.
- Assists with response to public health emergencies as required by Department or program administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree or 48+ hours of college coursework with a transcript or certificate documenting coursework or training related to health or health education.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have graduated from a college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Public Health, Community Health Education, Nursing, Lifestyle Management or a closely related field OR 2 years of experience with community outreach, community education, or lifestyle coaching in rural, frontier, and tribal communities.
Salary: $18.50/hr-23.00/hr DOE
