Facilities Maintenance Technician

GENERAL PURPOSE:  

Working under the general supervision of the Facilities Management Director performs a variety  of full performance skilled maintenance and custodial duties including carpentry, plumbing,  electrical, painting, general grounds, and custodial care, related to the general maintenance and  repair of facilities, including HVAC and other mechanical systems.  

The following list of duties is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions  and tasks performed by this position. 

Supervision Received: 

Works under the supervision of the Facilities Management Director. 

Supervision Exercised: 

None 

Example of Duties: 

•Performs a variety of painting, carpentry, plastering, masonry, plumbing, metal, electrical,  mechanical maintenance, and related work. 

•Performs repairs of plumbing piping and fixtures, performs routine plumbing; clears and  cleans drain obstructions, maintains sinks, urinals, and toilets. 

•Performs general carpentry; maintains physical aspects of building such as windows and  doorframes and woodwork; repairs furniture; repairs and replaces locks. 

•Performs general upkeep and repairs.

•Operates snow blower/snow shovel or lawn mower as needed. 

•Performs preventive maintenance. 

•Attends to after-hours emergencies when necessary. 

•Performs related duties as required. 

•Performs custodial duties as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications : 

· Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent 

· Must possess a current Utah Driver License 

Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:  

• Knowledge: 

Standard methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of building  maintenance functions; considerable knowledge of the hazards and the safety precautions  common to building maintenance.  

• Skill in: 

the use of specialized and common tools and the materials of several trades.  • Ability to: 

determine needs for services and supplies necessary to carry out tasks; operate ground  equipment and power tools; frequently lift 35 to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75  to 100 pounds or more; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; develop  effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.; work  independently; deal effectively with stress caused by workload and time deadlines; work  additional hours when needed. 

• Special Qualifications:  

Must possess a valid Utah drivers license with a satisfactory driving record and no  driving restrictions.
